A Day in Music

You know how a good song can totally change your mood? That's what Chet Faker's albums do to me. Every morning when I do my makeup (or during the weekend when I look through my Instagram) I put both of his albums on, and honestly it's the best way to start the day. Especially the song "1998". I have no idea if it's the comforting and slow beat that wakes me up in the more gentle way or just that it's a song (ugh makes any sense?). Then, as soon as I leave the house and hit the bus, I change my playlist to something that is definitely more "vibrant". Oh but can Gooey by Glass Animals count as a vibrant song? Then of course I need a bit of Beyonce. My favorite one is the remix of Drunk in Love with Kanye West. His part is my favorite. Two of my friends and I learned the lyrics of his rap and it's the funniest thing to recite (at ANY time of the day lol). On days that I decide to walk between the bus stop and the school (some days I'm too lazy or the weather conditions are too bad for this 10 min walk so I just take another bus), I can listen to more music. Recently I've discovered the Swedish singer Zara Larsson and I'm smitten with her voice. For now my favorite song is Weak Heart but I did not listen to all her album yet. And when I can listen to more music, this is what I put on, with a recap of the previous songs I mentioned:

Chet's Faker (both of his albums: Thinking in textures and Built on Glass), Fav: 1998
Gooey - Glass Animals
Drunk in Love Remix (ft Jay-Z and Kanye West) - Beyonce
Weak Heart - Zara Larsson

And others...
Pray to God (ft. HAIM) - Calvin Harris
The Wire - HAIM
Elastic Heart - Sia
Warm Water (Snakehips Remix) - Banks
Get in My Life - Hermitude
Paper Planes - M.I.A.
No Diggity - Blackstreet

Let me know if there's any good songs I should hear, always on the lookout for new ones! Love. s.

Greenhouse

I remember a few years ago, around Easter, I asked my mom if we could go buy a plant to put in my room (just to decorate). Unfortunately, I let the plant die because I didn't take care of it (and my mom forgot that I had a plant in my room). Then a few years after that, I was probably 13 or 14 years old, and we had to transplant an African violet in my science class, I remember that I loved the experience of taking care of a flower, but I gave it to my grandmother. Then this year after hours spent on Pinterest and Instagram and all sorts of social network, my love for plants came back again. I'm sure it's because I see them everywhere and I realized that they are a stunning statement piece to put in a decor. Then last week, I went to the Concordia Greenhouse Sale hoping I would find small and cute plants (especially) cactus to put in my new room, for a Scandinavian touch. The event was really big, around 4k people had checked in, but my friend and I arrived at a reasonable hour so we could have the chance to buy a few ones. As soon as we entered the greenhouse, it felt so comfortable with all the light and the warmness (it was around -17 °C outside), and looking at the green beauties. I ended up only buying one plant (and I don't even know what kind... silly me), because there was no cactus). After taking it back to school and then back to my house the plant suffered a bit, probably because of the weather, but anyway I am willing to make this plant live and then I will find a few small cactus to put next to it. And probably next spring I will make a visit to the Westmount greenhouse... ;) Love. S.

Club Monaco Store Opening

Photo: Nightlife

This week was filled with events, but the one that was really the highlight was the opening night of the new Club Monaco flagship store on Sainte-Catherine street. I've told you about the new store not too long ago (here) when I tried their coffee shop (that's actually inside the store). This time, all the medias were invited to inaugurate it. Canapés, music by Dj Abeille, and lots of pretty clothes were on the menue of the night. As you can tell, I've took a lot of pictures, this store is so photogenic! If you have the chance to visit and shop at the new Club Monaco, you'll see that this is another level of decoration. It's the prettiest boutique I've seen in all Montreal, and I'm hoping we'll see other stores of this kind in the future.

Things going on

As I said at the beginning of 2015, I really want the blog to become a space where I share mostly what I want. I also said that I wanted to write more  so today I'm just going to do kind of like a recap of what's happening right now in my world.

First of all, recently I've been really engaged with ... Instagram! I've decided that I would try to post at least one photo per day, so if you follow me already (@sandrinev), you probably noticed that change. And of course I started posting foodie pictures. That must be because right now I'm a bit of a Pinterest addict and of course there's food everywhere on Pinterest. Ugh bad influences right? Or not;) But the only thing is that I started the new semester at school yesterday so I'm no longer on vacation which means there's nothing interesting really to capture at school, but I'll do my best to keep doing my "Instagram Challenge" of 1 picture per day (andI will find interesting things to post).

Another thing, there was a problem with my schedule at school, so I got to have one more course, and I'm more than happy with the one they gave me, I have an art class! YAY! It used to be my favorite subject during elementary school until high school, so I'm excited. Maybe if my projects are nice enough I could show them to you here, but we'll see.

Love. S.

Jeanne Damas

I have a new fashion icon, and it's the French lady Jeanne Damas. I could spend hours telling you about her quintessential French style, but it's just obvious when we look at her. She has that "Je m'en fou" attitude and always wear basics with a touch of awesomeness (just look at her shoes). Jeanne always wear pieces that looks good on her (and she knows it). Her hair is also on point, like all Parisians. She's so charming! I'm really obsessed with French style icons since I've read "How to be a Parisian Wherever you are", they must have a secret to always have the perfect style, right?

And the effect on those pictures is simply fantastic, just like an old polaroid. Can I be Jeanne please?

Eye of the Dreamer

As you know already, I'm in the middle of a room makeover and there's a few items that I want to incorporate in my new decor (cactus, fairy lights,...) and eye of the dreamer pillows! The original design is by Jasmine Dowling (I love her work, if you don't know her check her Instagram: @jasminedowling). Well, since I want to be a bit crafty I'm probably going to do a DIY inspired by it.

I find that it's so cute, especially on a bed with only white sheets/comforter/pillows (like mine). So yeah I've been eyeing it since it's out so it's been a really long time... Love. S.

Timeless Pieces

I've decided that it's better to invest on quality things rather than 5$ shirts at H&M that will be damaged after two washes, so for that I need timeless pieces that will stay on trend as the years goes by. I made a list of 8 items that I would love to add to my wardrobe/life right now (some of them are not timeless clothing pieces I know... fairy lights right).

1) Lisa Marie Fernandez bikini. I know it's just the top, but this high quality swimsuit will probably be more durable than mine who lost all their color after my last holiday in the sun. Just a bit expensive 555$ Ouch!
2) Acne Ankle boots. My dream. Leather and Acne. 570$ (hope they'll last).
3) Fairy lights. I'm still trying to find fairy lights like those but I guess I should have started searching for some like that before Christmas. Maybe I'll find something online, it would look great in my next room (I'm planning an awesome decor).
4) Isabel Marant knit Sweater. Isabel know what looks good and what feels cozy, I could totally see myself in this sweater that has a nice shape at the bottom.
5) Nirvana Black, Elisabeth and James, oil perfume. I already have the Nirvana White but I keep going to Sephora to try this one, I think I like it even more than the one I have. And I've heard good things about the oil version. 42$
6) Michael Kors bucket bag. I'm so tired of seeing the MK initials all over the place so there would be no way I would want a Michael Kors bag. Well I thought that until I saw this amazing bucket bag at Ogilvy. It was love at first sight...
7) Acne Leather Jacket. LOVE #lifegoal
8) Birkenstocks (black or white). I know I know, the Birkenstock dilemma... And I know I would be late for the trend, but it's just that I find them pretty and comfortable, I'll see what I'll do next summer!

Flowers and Cactus

On flowers... In every movie or book (or in real life during an interview), girls always seems to have a favorite "flower", I see that all the time. But I must have been missing something since I don't have a favorite flower. Sure I love peonies, roses, hydrangeas, blue anemones... but if someone would ask me what my favorite flower is I wouldn't know what to answer. Should every girl have a favorite flower? I know this sounds random but it's something I always asked myself. I wish that one day my house will be filled with an arrangement of fresh flowers that I will choose meticulously at the flower market every Sunday. Ok after thinking about it I think that white peonies are my favs, what are YOUR favorite flowers?

On cactus... I'm obsessed with those. A touch of green always makes a difference in a decor and cactus always make me smile. I'm planning on going to the Westmount greenhouse one day this year just to see their amazing plants (And of course for Instagram pictures). And since I want my room to look like a Scandinavian-inspired room, I'm going to purchase little succulents and other plants of the same kind at the Concordia Greenhouse Sale next week. It's so minimalistic and chic.

My Everyday Makeup Routine

Since I started to wear makeup almost everyday (that was like four years ago), my routine evolved so much and I've learned a lot about makeup techniques and products. Of course it changes all the time, depending on the seasons and my new acquisitions. But recently I've come up with a really basic and effective routine that I thought I'd share with you, to show you my favorite products of the moment and how I use them.
FACE: On a daily basis, I don't wear foundation (I've worn foundation like 3 times in my life and that includes prom, the shooting for Mimi Hammer and another time I guess). So I start with a face primer that I find gives a nice smooth finish to the skin. Right now I'm using Smashbox Photo Finish but I sometimes alternate with Benefit's Porefessional. Then I just use concealer under my eyes. This one is my mum's Lancôme long-lasting undereye concealer. I always use hers because I love it but she doesn't like me using it (oops). Then I'm finishing the skin by applying translucide powder all over my face to set everything. For that I use Rimmel Stay Matte in the shade 001. Sometimes when I feel like it I apply blush on my cheeks (Hervana from Benefit), but I find that during winter times my cheeks are already a bit blushy so it would be too intense. One thing I need to add to my beauty routine is bronzer, but I just haven't found one that I liked yet, if you have any suggestions please let me know.
EYES & BROWS: This is my favorite part. Since I've got the Naked basic palette by Urban Decay, I find everything easier to do. I start by filling my brows with an angle shape brush and the shades Naked 2 and Faint mixed together, and then I brush my brows with a basic mascara brush that's completely clean (obviously). Then I apply the primer That Gal from Benefit all over my eyelid to set the eye makeup (I didn't put the product on the pictures). After that it's time for eyeshadow. This part changes a bit every time, but I usually apply W.O.S. all over my eyelid up to my brow bone (just to give light), then put Venus in the inner corner of my eye. After that I use Naked 2 in the crease to give a bit of definition (but I sometimes pair it with Faint if I want a more defined look). The next step is eyeliner, my favorite one of all time is the Eye Do Liquid Eyeliner by Eyeko (in collaboration with Alexa Chung). I usually do a thick line next to the lash line but sometimes I do a flick (when I'm feeling fancy uhuh). After that it's time for mascara! I always curl my lashes with an eyelash curler (mine is from Revlon), then I use Bad Gal from Benefit or Smashbox Eye Brightening, but only for the upper lashes.
LIPS & HIGHLIGHTER: On my lips, I simply apply a neutral and matte lipstick. Right now my favorite one is the shade Stockholm from Nyx's Soft Matte Lip Cream. On days were I want to change my makeup I usually just change the color on my lips and put a brighter one. And finally, when I really want to complete my makeup, I uses Benefit's Watt's Up highlighter on my cheek bone and under my brow bone.

2015's Revolutionary Lip Product

I have found (thanks to my friend Eva) the most amazing lip product ever!! It's the Soft Matte Lip Cream by Nyx. She introduced it to me one day before a math class and I was just so impressed by the look of it on her lips. It gives a matte finish that is absolutely stunning, think Kylie Jenner's lips. It's also the easiest thing to apply, and to take off when you've done mistakes, since the texture is very similar to a mousse.

One thing I love about this brand is that all the colors are represented by a city. For now I only have the "Milan", a mid-tone blue-toned pink, and Stockholm, a mid-tone beige pink, but I'm hoping my collection will somehow grow over the months.

Lips were definitely a "thing" at the end of 2014 but I'm sure they'll still be major statement accessory in 2015, that's why I think that this product is going to be revolutionary (for me at least). The color is really pigmented but I love it! Oh and I'm eyeing the shade "Copenhagen" (a matte rich plum), but haven't seen it anywhere yet.

Joan Didion for Céline and Alexa Chung for AG

There's so much things happening this week on the internet that I had to do kind of like a recap of my favorite ones. Of course a new year also means that the brands have new ideas for new campaigns, and so far they are all better than the others. First of all Joan Didion for Céline, how cool is that? I know, I know you've seen it all over your social media feeds but I was so impressed by it that I had to just mention it at least. The choice of the author for the campaign is amazing, she is just gorgeous! This woman is a treasure by itself, with her memoir, her 1968 essay collection and her coming-soon documentary about her life, Didion is really impressive! I want to have a career rich in experience like hers. And seeing pictures of her when she was younger, her style kept the same vibe and it was a good match with Céline's new campaign. Didion's beauty is timeless even at 80 years old, and I applaud Céline's creative directors for putting her in the spotlight. Céline is totally out of my reach for the moment but this ad sure makes me want to buy some stuff, I'm obsessed with the oversized sunglasses (and the dress, and the necklace).

In second place for another great campaign, the video of Alexa Chung for AG Jeans (for My Theresa). The one behind the camera? Gia Coppola! And you know I love the Coppola's family production, and I love Alexa Chung even more, so it was a match made in heaven. The simplicity of the video is what catch my eye the most; Alexa is in a party signing a song on a karaoke. And of course since it's a jeans ad, she's wearing a denim dress (the cutest with the cutest white shoes) and she is signing Blue Denim by Stevie Nicks. Watching this, I love Chung even more because of her candid attitude and her super stylish self. Oh and in the video it's Alexa's voice, looooove it!

So far, 2015 has the best ads and this is when I realize that one day I really want to contribute to those campaigns and evolve in a creative environment with a variety of creative people. It would be such fulfilling experiences... I'm hoping we'll continue to see great campaign like those that are totally outside the box and that present icons with unique paths. Love. S.

Air de Mer

For a long time I've been eyeing this small black bottle that smells like a day at the beach. A few days ago, during a (late) gift exchange for Christmas with my friends, I was lucky enough to receive the coveted bottle. It is a sea salt spray for the hair by Lush named "Air de Mer". I'm literally in olfactory heaven. I will wear the mist everyday, not just to make myself believe that I am lying on a beach but also to give my hair extra texture and love! This mist shall give my hair the natural glow that we usually only get at the beach, then I'll be able to pretend that I am a mermaid.

And since I can't spend my day at the beach (obviously I live where the weather is the complete opposite), I'm gonna head to the nearest public pool and swim...

A Soirée Under the Blue Whale

Yesterday one of the most amazing things happened, and unfortunately I "physically" missed it. I was scrolling through my Instagram feed when I noticed that there was a big event happening at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, just under the blue whale. It was the premiere of the new season of HBO Girls. I haven't watch this serie yet, but I am planning on watching it sometime soon, especially after I read Lena Dunham's book. But this is not the point; I am talking here about a fabulous soirée happening under a whale, how exciting is that?

I got the chance to see this museum during my last trip to New York and honestly the whale was my favorite part of all the museum. I am obsessed with documentaries about sea creatures (have you watched Blackfish?) and everything related to the sea.

Let's just say that the person who got the idea to first of all do the event in a museum was a genius, and especially under the big blue whale. If only I could get married there, wouldn't it be fun? Love. S.

Ambition to Create Novel Expression

For over two years now I've been OBSESSED (and I weigh my words when saying that) with Acne Studios. There isn't any week without me going on their online shop dreaming about a feature purchase I'll make there. Of course my budget doesn't allow me yet to do a big splurge at Acne, but one day I'm sure I'll be able to put my hands on a few of their pieces wether they are thrifted items of new ones. When I visited London in 2013 I found myself in front of one of Acne's flagship stores, and I remember I told myself that the day I step a foot in Stockholm (where the headquarters of the brand are) I would buy one of their item, even if my budget only allows something very small. And that I would treasure this item for all the years to come.

I would die of happiness if I owned one of their leather jackets, or even just holding one of their signature peach-colored shopping bags... ok I'm dreaming now! So yeah I made a small collage of my favorite styles that are presently available in their online store; all very minimalistic and of course in neutral colors. I just love the different textures and cuts, it gives so much shape to an outfit and it couldn't be more flattering.

Oh and by the way, Acne Studios is part of the creative collective ACNE which is so cool (I just love the acronym, it stands for "Ambition to Create Novel Expression"). In the meantime (while I am waiting to get my first Acne piece) maybe I should just concentrate on trying to find one available copy of the Acne paper issue with Mikahail Baryshnikov one the cover (aka Alexander Petrovsky, Carrie Bradshaw's famous lover). Love. S.

2015

Happy New Year everybody! Big changes are coming on the blog this year! You probably already noticed a few modifications; the blog is only written in English now, and I post fewer looks than before. It's because I decided that I wanted to write more and didn't want to take as many pictures of myself as I used to. It's an adjustment I wanted to make for a while now and I'm happy with my decision. I will probably still make a few outfit posts, just not as much as before. The blog will take another direction which will be more open to different subjects such as; fashion, art, travel, food, architecture or lifestyle! And be prepared to read a bit more, because the texts will be longer and I will sometimes take position on different subjects.

2014 was awesome and it was a year full of exciting adventures but I am glad 2015 is there and I am ready for something totally different. Before we jump in this year I just wanted to do a quick recap in pictures of some of the best moments of the year we just ended. Some of the things I the most proud of are my interview in La Presse + and my photoshoot for Mimi Hammer's lingerie line.

For 2015, my main resolutions are to start learning Swedish, save for a trip in Scandinavia and continue to do what I want to do without worrying about what people are going to think.

CINKO

Last week, one of my friend suggested that we try the restaurant "Cinko" in the heart of Montreal. The concept is genius, every dish costs 5$, and that doesn't mean they cut on quality. Instead, this restaurant uses fresh seasonal products and creates the most comforting meals. Even the place itself is warm and inviting. I must say the tables are a little close to each other, but I guess that this is what makes this place inviting and perfect for a casual dinner with friends.

I tried the linguine with bacon and chives (made with white whine sauce) and it was delicious! The portions are not copious, they are just the right size to satisfy my stomach. I also shared their Sweet potatoes fries with my friend and let me tell you... it was tasty!! Probably because they were accompanied with bacon and a spicy mayonnaise, yummy! Oh and their selection of drinks are great too! I recommend this place to anyone who wants to spend a great evening in good company (the music and the deco is great too btw). Love. S.
